Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering support for research, analysis, and investigations in supporting design, preparation, execution, and analysis of studies and experimentation
- Design, assemble, install, and maintain experimentation facilities and recommend and incorporate appropriate instrumentation, and equipment
- Develop and ensure SOPs, proposals, research work plans, and documentation meet military and regulatory standards
- Perform laboratory procedures, field studies, testing, evaluation, and research activities
- Support Principal Investigators and Group Leadership and study teams in preparation and execution of RDT&E laboratory and field studies, particularly in the area of managing safe and timely study team experimentation, interpretation of RDT&E in context of military relevance, and reporting on RDT&E outcomes
- Work independently with minimal strategic guidance and with a certain degree of creativity and latitude to address analytic, theoretical, scientific, and operational questions, solve analytic and technical problems, and execute analytic, theoretical, scientific, and administrative solutions.
- Provide experimentation, design, data acquisition, and data analysis services related to the Injury Biomechanics RDT&E program
- Provide ballistics, military tactical operations, and equipment expertise to IBPG by serving as ballistic test manager responsible for all non-specimen related aspects of the planned research
- Provide scientific analytical, engineering problem solving, design efforts, and experienced-based solutions related to creating, measuring, and evaluating biomechanical, kinematic, and physiologic responses
- Analyze and evaluate ongoing research through data and documentation
- Provide services in a team environment to meet customer, project timelines.
- Actively conduct hands-on PMHS research, volunteer research, quality assurance, data analysis, BSL-2 good laboratory practice, and support publication of project findings.
- Ensure all team members follow laboratory safety and biosafety requirements.
- Provide recommendations to improve laboratory data collection
- Confirm to the PI that the entire study team read, understand, and execute data acquisition techniques and procedures
- Ensure team members are accurately recording all laboratory procedures, research project data, data analyses, conclusions, and results in government-authorized notebooks and electronic systems
- Assist with writing research work plans, proposals, data collection procedures, and agreements.
- Maintain customer and collaborator relations.

Qualifications
- Experience in commonly-used concepts, practices, standards, and procedures within mechanical engineering, materials, biomedical experimentation, design, data acquisition, and mathematics as demonstrated through a relevant engineering degree and coursework from an ABET accredited program and demonstrates experience and skill with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
- Experience in design, experimental T&E, instrumentation, and use/function of military systems
- Possess demonstrated experience with at least 4 of the following groupings: blast, ballistics, impact, and/or mechanical testing devices, personnel protective equipment (PPE), existing industry and military weapon and PPE standards, instrumentation (load cells, accelerometers, pressure gauges, etc.), data acquisition equipment (high rate, high quality); surrogate or human test and evaluation.
