Summary

Responsibilities

  • What You'll Do:

    • Emergency Response: Act as the first responder to emergencies, enforce federal and state laws, and conduct mobile patrols, inspections, and searches.
    • Protect NASA Property: Guard NASA buildings and property, control access, and protect equipment and materials.
    • Traffic Control: Conduct traffic enforcement and investigations, and manage access control.
    • Professional Interaction: Escort and interact with public and government personnel, and communicate effectively via radio, telephone, and in person.
    • Flexible Hours: Be available for flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and remain on call for emergency duty.
    • Other Duties: As assigned. 

Qualifications

  • What We're Looking For:

    • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Experience: Preferred 1-3 years of military or law enforcement experience. Completion of a state or federal law enforcement academy.
    • Certifications: NASA Basic Training Standard (NBTS), ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, NIMS IS-700, and POST Academy required prior to appointment
    • Skills: Strong communication and report writing skills. Proficient with computers and standard word processing programs.
    • Federal Compliance: All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. 
    • Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid state driver’s license, and have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture. Must successfully complete all training and obtain all required licenses, certifications, and security/medical clearances for the site. Must meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications and complete psychological examinations. Must also pass the Initial Physical Agility Test (IPAT), which includes:
      • One-Mile Run:
        • Age 29 and under: 10:00 minutes
        • Age 30-39: 11:00 minutes
        • Age 40-49: 11:30 minutes
        • Age 50 and above: 12:30 minutes
      • Obstacle Course (within 5 minutes):
    1. From a seated position, exit the vehicle.
    2. Complete a 220-yard run.
    3. Navigate an obstacle course (total length 115 feet):
          • Climb or vault over a 40-inch high solid structure.
          • Three high step hurdles (24 inches, 12 inches, and 18 inches high, spaced 3 feet apart).
          • Serpentine pylon maneuver (4 pylons spaced 3 feet apart).
          • Low crawl under two separate bars, 28 inches in height and spaced 36 inches apart.
    1. Complete a 50-foot sprint.
    2. Drag a 150 lb. dummy or mannequin 50 feet.
    3. Complete a 50-foot sprint to the obstacle course.
    4. Navigate the obstacle course in reverse order (total length 115 feet):
          • Low crawl under two separate bars spaced 36 inches apart and 28 inches in height.
          • Serpentine pylon maneuver (4 pylons spaced 3 feet apart).
          • Three hurdles (24 inches, 12 inches, 18 inches high and 3 feet apart).
          • Climb or vault over the 40-inch structure.
    1. Complete a 220-yard run.
    2. Time stops when the candidate touches the vehicle.
