Job Description

Summary

Chenega Professional & Technical Services, LLC, a Chenega Professional Services’ company, is looking for a Laboratory Technician 3. The Laboratory Technician 3 will provide support to the to the Viral Pathogenesis Branch (VPB) with laboratory experiments in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories and thus must hold and maintain BPRP status, IAW the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations.  The Contractor shall aid in the execution of scientific studies, basic cell culture, and plaque assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, and maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support 1-5 Non-human Primate studies and 10-20 rodent studies per year in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories.
  • Perform inoculations with virus, vaccine, or applicable testing material, collect tissues for processing and conduct blood sample collection.
  • Perform in vitro testing of candidate vaccines and therapeutic compounds against a variety of viruses
  • Prepare all necessary study materials for assigned experiments to include but not limited to preparing cell culture media, labeling tubes, and preparing paperwork
  • Perform immunological procedures including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Western Blot assays.
  • Perform basic cell culture, plaque assays (PA), plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT), PCR, and other assays to support NHP and rodent studies.
  • May serve as a BSL-2 mentor
  • Responsible for assessing and maintaining laboratory supplies in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories. Will assess supplies and ensure supplies are ordered or will order supplies using GFEBs ordering system
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance duties, including but not limited to cleaning, preparation for inspections, and containment space monthly duties as assigned by the suite supervisor.
  • Assist with annual conduct of Equipment Inventory Management in BSL-2 and BSL-3.
  • Provide TPOC a Contractor Research Technical Report NLT the last day of each week
  • Read, understand, and execute techniques and procedures within the quality standards and timelines prescribed by the research plan.
  • Record all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses, and analytical conclusions of analyses in government-authorized notebooks and electronic systems in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Perform a variety of scientific and administrative tasks, with a certain degree of creativity and latitude expected. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Active or ability to obtain Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain BPRP status.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Able to follow instructions and guidelines to perform the functions of the job, including but not limited to relevant Standard Operating Procedures, national standards of research technical accuracy, and/or other written guidelines provided.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as legible handwriting IAW 21 CFR Part 58.

Estimated Salary/Wage

USD $50,000.00/Yr. Up to USD $65,000.00/Yr.
